The Global Sustainable Seafood Galicia Forum (GSSG) will host its third edition in Vigo on May 28, under the theme Measuring Sustainability.<\/em> This gathering will bring together professionals and experts from the seafood sector for an open dialogue, sharing diverse visions and perspectives on the current state of the industry, its priorities, and the challenges of measuring sustainability in fishing and aquaculture.<\/p>\n

Seafood sustainability is a shared goal among all stakeholders in the value chain, achievable through responsible action. It requires preserving natural resources to benefit both present and future generations while ensuring social and economic advantages.<\/p>\n

The sector and its stakeholders face the challenge of measuring sustainability. On one side, compliance with current regulations is essential; on the other, identifying measurement indicators serves a dual purpose: enhancing company value and efficiency while ensuring a positive impact on society and the environment. The shared goal is continuous progress.<\/p>\n

Different approaches <\/strong><\/h2>\n

On the topic of measuring sustainability, the third GSSG forum will examine five key perspectives\u2014NGOs, value chains, institutions, science and finance\u2014each offering its own approach. These perspectives will be explored across five dedicated sessions, featuring twenty-one national and international experts. Through diverse insights, experiences, priorities, challenges, and best practices, the forum aims to establish actionable recommendations, identify pressing needs, and outline conclusions that contribute to sustainability improvements.<\/p>\n

The second edition of the GSSG forum, held in November 2024, focused on the theme An Asymmetric Vision of Sustainability<\/em>. The event brought together fourteen international speakers in Vigo and produced key insights aligned with the goal of sustainability. Among these takeaways was the recognition that the sector’s future depends on maintaining healthy oceans, that addressing environmental challenges requires science, research, and knowledge-sharing, and that collaboration and unity are essential for long-term success.<\/p>\n
